Kevin McNally opens the day with the easy confidence of a man who has lived inside the Pirates of the Caribbean world for years. As Mr. Gibbs, he jokes that he was almost too young when the series began, and now, after thirteen years, he needs less and less makeup. What once took effort has become part of the character’s natural weathered look. He laughs about using sunburn, dirt, and even mud from the car park to save money on makeup, rubbing it on as if the whole production were a giant pirate’s joke only insiders truly understand.
