It feels like writers are constantly relying on this underdog trope to create artificial growth. It's lazy writing, in my opinion. Instead of starting with a "loser," why not explore a character who already has some skills and strengths but faces different challenges? It would be much more interesting to see someone navigate a new world with their existing abilities and adapt to unfamiliar situations. The constant need to portray the protagonist as initially weak and then suddenly overpowered just feels contrived and predictable. I hope this anime breaks that mold and offers something truly fresh, but I'm not holding my breath. I'm tired of these
