CBS is reportedly planning a spinoff of the popular comedy The Big Bang Theory, focusing on the youthful adventures of fan-favourite character, Sheldon Cooper. The role of the young Sheldon could potentially be played by Big Little Lies star, Iain Armitage, while negotiations are underway for Zoe Perry, real-life daughter of actress Laurie Metcalf - who currently plays Sheldon’s mother in the series - to retain the role. Metcalf has received extensive critical praise for her performance, including an Emmy nomination. While details of the spinoff, currently dubbed ‘The Untitled Sheldon Project’, remain uncertain, it is suggested that Jim Parsons, the actor behind grown-up Sheldon, will be an executive producer. Meanwhile, The Big Bang Theory, now in its tenth season and still primetime’s highest rated comedy, may be set for a two-season renewal, subject to contractual terms with the cast.
